Yavuz Sultan Selim Han ve Kanuni Süleyman devrinin meşhur Şeyh-ül İslâmı ve âlimidir. Asıl adı Alâaddin Ali Cemâl Çelebi'dir. Allah rızası ve Allah korkusundan başka birşey tanımaması sayesinde, pervasız hareketleri ile bir çok insanın hayatlarını koruyabilmiş, adaleti te'min etmiştir. Sağlam dindarların sultanlara karşı nasıl metanet ve cesaret göstereceğine nümunelik bir zat olarak yaşamış, devlet reislerine istikameti gösterebilen bir İslâm kahramanı olmuştur. Vefatı Mi: 1526 tarihine rastlar. Karaman'lı olduğu söylenir.

Milliyetçi ve korumacı bir iktisat politikası izlemek gerektiğini savunmuştur. 1879da Ekonomi Politik ve Mallülukad adlı iktisat kitabı yayınlanmıştır.
