Reel gelir, gelirin gerçek satınalma gücüdür. Belirli bir dönemde reel gelirin bulunabilmesi için parasal (nominal), gelirin o dönemin fiyat endeksine bölünmesi gerekir. Reel gelir aşağıdaki gibi gösterilir.Reel Gelir = Parasal Gelir/Fiyat EndeksiParasal gelirdeki yüzde değişme ile fiyatlar genel düzeyindeki yüzde değişme aynı ise reel gelirde bir değişme olmaz. Reel gelirdeki artış parasal gelirdeki artışın fiyatlar genel düzeyindeki artıştan daha yüksek olmasına bağlıdır.
