MEYDAN DAYAĞI (İsim)

Eskiden askeri mekteblerle kışlalarda tatbik edilen cezalardan biridir. Meydanda tatbik edildiği için bu adı almıştır. Arkadaşını yaralamak, hoca ve zâbitine hakarette bulunmak gibi büyük kabahatlerden dolayı verilen bu dayak cezası, saf saf dizilen bütün talebelerin; asker ise kışladaki askerlerin huzurunda atılırdı. Cezaya çarpılacak talebe yahut asker, meydana getirilerek cezayı icab ettiren kabahatle meydan dayağının tatbiki için verilen karar okunduktan sonra serilen bir battaniye üzerine yüzükoyun yatırılır, başının ucuna ve ayaklarının üstüne kuvvetli birer hademe yahut asker oturtulur, okulun inzibât subayı, asker ise bölüğün subaylarından biri ince kızılcık sopasıyla kaba etlerine vururdu.Bu gibi cezalar, herkes ibret alıp bu suçlar işlenmemesi için herkesin gözü önünde icra edilirdi.
